MinneSNOWta!
04/01/08 at 19:02:28

Picked up my scoot this weekend . . . 2003 with 1965 miles!

With temps in the mid 40s . . . managed to grab a quick 10 minute jaunt to top off the fuel after warming up the motor.

Roll on in 2nd gear, two up, uphill grade - 20-50 mph in a little over a quarter of a block! I do not see a problem with that! <big grin>

Next, OIL change and wait for DRY roads after Monday's 6" snowfall.

Couple of questions:

1) Is there a trick to removing the plugs covering the handle bar cap bolts?

2) Torque specs for the three bolts holding on the oil filter? The manual hasn't arrive yet!

Thanks in advance!

The whole endcap is plastic(one Piece)it is just wedged into the end of the bars..Pry off carefully with wide blade screwdriver or chisel. The three bolts:My manual says in a criss cross pattern tighten bolts firmly(no torque specs.)But 6mm bolt spec is 4.5 ft.lbs.Oops cap bolts,as in the risers?Small pick(carefully)work it around it rather than try to pry off in one spot.

Check out the tech section, there's a listing noting the whereabouts of an on-line manual.

demin:
Thanks for the info, that is very helpful. I was scratching my head over that!

verslagen1:
Yep, thanks. I looked at the online manual, but it did not list any torque values . . . I'm going with the 4.5 ft.lbs. demin suggested.

Reelthing:
Thanks. I'm pretty happy with the deal. I saw an even better deal on a 2005 listed on the Atlanta Craigslist . . . but the shipping charges brought me back to reality! Smiley

Again, thanks All!!

Hi Smokin_Blue,

Checked out your website, the Savage cafe sounds interesting. Something about cafe's just sings to me . . . I did the cafe treatment on a brand new Yamaha Heritage special (XS650) back in 1982 . . . look forward to the updates!
