New Gasket Left Crankcase cover - Still Leaking!
03/26/08 at 10:56:26
Hey all, 1st off I want to thank everybody here again! Yesterday (thanks to all of you on here) I was able to fix my leaking head cover. I put in the new plug and fixed it perfectly.
I have just polished my crank case covers and I got new gaskets. I asked they guy at the suzuki dealership if I need gasket sealer on the gaskets and he said that i don't need it.
Now I put together the crank case covers and ----- They have a slow leak, drips like 1 drop of oil every 30-40 seconds.
I'm guessing I need gasket sealer, will the Permatex Grey Sealer work ok? Do I now need to buy new gaskets or can I just re-use the new ones that are installed - but leaking (cause the idiot at the dealership told me I didn't need gasket sealer.

You should be able to reuse it,just becareful taking it apart.Clean the gasket with some carb cleaner/brake cleaner on a rag, just wipe it clean.Do not spray it.They gray non-hardening is good.I always smear a little extra where the wires go through.

Stupid question time. Are you sure you tightened the cover bolts tight enough?
Second, what pattern did you use to tighten the bolts. I usually do a criss cross pattern so I know the torque is evenly placed around the cover.

When you take the cover off check for scratches. The gaskets work well, but it there's a scratch, it'll leak.

If you didn't warm the bike up too much with the new gaskets then you can reuse them for sure, if they were throuroghly warmed up then good luck. They have that preapplied sealer in some areas that activates when heated.
Hopefuly they will be ok cause it sucks buying parts twice for something that could have been avoided.
