Ammo Box --> Saddlebags

I've had these on for a couple of weeks. They working great!
I was inspired by this thread:
http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1199911736/60
Go here to see the details:
http://docs.google.com/File?id=dgm2nhz9_9gnp7tjcs
The most expensive part was the replacement rear turn signals.
Yes, my bike is dirty. I drive 2 miles on a gravel road every day, so I don't bother to clean it often.
. . . . Well, I can't seem to post a picture here. The board is saying the picture is much bigger than it really is (308KB vs 34KB) I'll keep trying smaller until it posts. The Google Docs page has bigger pics.
. . . . OK, I give up, just go to my link. Thanks.

I've also had problems posting images. I tried posting a 60 Kb image and it said it was 334 Kb...something is not right...

Christian, How do you have those ammo boxes mounted? I have been hauling around one since I got out of the corps in 80. ( Can always pick up another) Always knew there had to be a reason other then just to hold old papers.
Thanks,
~ Strafford_Guy~

I made a bracket out of 3/16"x1" steel flat bar that bolts to the bike on the chrome rail at the front, top bolt and at where the rear turn signal holes are. I also made a brace out of the same steel to keep the boxes from bouncing.

I used slightly modified 3/4" tubular steel ladder racks from Home Depot on mine...

Very impressive mount there. I have been thinking of getting a couple of ammo boxes for bags for a while. I always liked the look of them. Ever consider making the brackets and selling them as a set? If so, I might be interested in a set (no vice for bending at home).

[from the above link (7th picture down): "This shows the bracket I made as per
http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?board=tech;action=display;num=1118286882
It's made in the same way the others were."]
Here is Gitarzan's Bracket:
I followed the link Gitarzan posted to scooterworks.com and saw that they sell this -> #05-201 Universal Flasher Relocator Bar.$14.20 :
Has anyone tried it? I guess you would still need to cut the two notches for the plate mount.

Christian,
Thanks for the pictures. I really like the look of the mounted Ammo Boxes. May have to give that a go.

Um, no, thank you.
I think it would be cheaper to go and get a cheapie vise and sledge from Harbor Freight (where I got mine), or similar establishment, than to have me make and ship them.
Or go make friends at a local machine shop. They would be able to whip these out much faster (and probably cheaper) than I could.

Christian,
I looked at the pictures. Fantastic fabrication job.
Towards the bottom of the the page, you made the comment that if you had to do this again, you would use 1/4 inch stock, followed by the comment that the 3/16 was plenty strong enough. I'm not quite clear on what you meant. Would you go to the heavier 1/4 inch stock, or would you go with lighter stock, say 1/8?

Er, yeah. I meant 1/8", my mistake.
