first ride (this year) and just died!!
03/24/08 at 11:42:02
I finally got everything back together after a winter teardown. New jets, white spacer shaved, progressive shocks, gel seat, and paint. She fired right up, adjusted the carb, sounded great, and went for a shakedown cruise, everything was great close to home (about 5 miles). I dug out the chaps and was going to go fill up, I got to the end of the lane and it just died, no starter, no headlights, nuthin. The battery connections seem tight (just cleaned them and put in new brass screws). I havent gotten out the electrical tester yet. Is there a main fuse? I see the 20 amp relay under the seat.
Anybody have any thoughts?

Main fuse is under the seat.Did you have the tank off when you painted it?Check wiring/plugs under tank, and around rear fender if it was off to paint.

yeah, check the fuses. you prolly ahve a short somewhere, and it blew the fuses. They are under the seat, rigth hand side. Youi can prolly get at them w/o removing the seat.

If it isn't a fuse, I vote for that evil connector under the tank on the left side towards the front.
You normally would not disconnect it, but putting the tank on has a tendency to push it apart.

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut between the seat and the handlebars. Make sure yours isn't too tight or too loose.

That's what I was thinking,it probably was together enough to start, etc.
Riding/bump vibrated it a part.

yep, had the tank off, but does that connector do anything other than for the turn signal indicators, neutral light, and light for the speedo?
All the connections under the seat seem tight.

the other connector... the one for the wires that runs up to the handle bars.

Plugs under the tank coming apart.that's about all I know of.But there has to be a reason the fuse blew.

I know, Ive only had the bike since last June and havent had any electrical problem, so the timing of it really boggled me. I did replace it with a 15 amp (first fuse I found) and got another 20, so we'll see how it oges

check fuse is/should be the first of any auto electrical issue. but don't beat yourself up over it. i did carb mods, then ran it out of reg tank. didn't even think to check reserve. opps.... we all brain phart now and then.

I know,
my local mechanic guru suggested that it may have overcharged since the battery was probably drained from sitting over the winter.
