I have a 2003 HD Road King.  I have been wanting to get my wife from the back seat to her own bike.  Seem like an easy bike to learn to ride.  If she really gets into riding maybe I will get her something bigger, but there is something about the S40 that makes is seem like it is not just an entry level bike for her.  Will let you know how it goes.

Three ways to go -- stock, bag it, or bob it.

You have the carry capacity of a small truck so she doesn't need to lug anything around.  Bob it, tweak the performance a bit . . . she'll have fun zipping away from you.

Seriously, every bike should fit the desires of the rider.  Have her log in and we'll discuss her options, what she wants, what can be done....

You're right about it not being just an entry level bike.  It is also a killer city bike and a capable tourer.

Congrats, if she doesn't already know how to ride have her take the MSF course (take it with her - you'll be a better rider for it).

In agreement with Paladin, this is NOT JUST and entry level bike, and don't let the size or 1 cyl design fool you, it is quite a bike.  Many of the Savage/S40 owners who frequent this place are long time riders who have experience with a number of bike types over 20-30 40 years worth of riding and have chosen the Savage/S40 because of its unique characteristics.  It is lighter than the big road bikes, has good torque, is responsive and is very maneuverable.   With a little tweaking the overall performance, power and handling, can be improved still more.  It is a very versatile bike, inexpensive and easy to work on.

I'm rebuilding my old Harley, and have been riding the Savage.I have to go to Dallas everyday, the Savage is so much more nimble than the Harley.Don't get me wrong,I love my Shovel, but at around 500lbs vs Savage 300lbs.It's nice for local.

Get her riding ....  get her stopping (important) ....  do a bunch of easy rides with her following.  Remember to take it easy and slow down on the turns & twisty's till she starts asking you to speed up.  That's the hint that she's getting comfortable...  Wink
