Nope, never seen that exact modification before; but I wouldn't mind having 3"-6"  in the same area so I could more easily mount a 5-gallon tank and my HUGE police style seat:

In the picture above, the big solo seat is in a position that feels good in relation to the original position of the foot pegs and controls; for my stature.  Wink

Might go along with the 4" over fork tubes on my 99. ???

John,

Mount that in the stock position with a peanut tank and will call it a mid control conversion.   Smiley

Ya, I used later sprockets for the conversion and hadta buy two chains. The ride is perfect. Now I don't have the handlebars hitting my knees. Plus now I can straightarm it; a lot more comfy.

The sprockets were from a 2000 I'm pretty sure, so that part went right together. Extending the four frame tubes wasn't much to do either. All of the little stuff like rear brake linkage and sectioning the wiring took some time. I had to rejet it with this air cleaner too. Got that from pep boys. I think I went up two sizes.

I didn't install my 4" over fork tubes, the bike came to me that way...

But "Frank's Engineering" also called "Forking by Frank" has been the manufacturer of choice for as long as I can remember:

http://www.frankmain.qpg.com/

They'll turn out a pair and get them to you very reasonable. Just don't go asking for any silly +12" long forks for your 50º rake chopper from them unless you want to hear the "how dangerous that is" speech. After all these years, I'm betting he knows what he's talking about!

Yeah, I kinda feel like: Gee honey, I bought this really cool seat, so now all I have to do is build a whole new bike under it! The good news is: I can use lots of the parts from my old Savage!

I emailed Frank to see what he had for the Savage.  I'd like to extend it but to kick it forward a lil bit too.

Care to share the fit-up and welding details on the frame modifications you've done so far? I'm curious how you went about it. I keep looking at new welding/cutting gear. I got really good with stick and then mig welding and can even braze/weld well with a torch besides having good torch/carbon arc cutting skills. But I see people using "modern" plasma cutters and TIG welding, and it is so clean and perfect looking; I'm wondering if I really need to update my skills to work on frames.

Actually, a few inches added in the middle, and maybe a couple inches higher, would probably go along with a mid-control conversion very, very well. I've been thinking about this stuff WAY.... to much!  Cheesy
