Ok, this is my problem. I got the bike to turn over and start yesterday. Then I had to stop to help the folks cary some big stuff. Tried again, it turned over sowly then a bunch of rapid clicks. I figured battery died, it did. Charged it up. Same problem today. Couldn't even push start it. Battery dies yet again. I plug the charger in, it says the battery is fully charged. Do I have to buy a new battery? It's stock '06. I do don't I? Undecided

Check all of your connections to the battery, make sure they're tight and clean. Then charge the battery and start the bike, use a volt meter to measure voltage across the battery terminals, it should be between 14.0 and 15.5 volts at 5000 rpm. If the voltage is in that range and the connections are tight, then yes, you need a new battery. If the voltage is less than 14.0 volts at 5000 rpm then you have a problem with the charging system and you need a manual.

Check the grounding cable to the engine. BTW: a bad cell will give indication of being fully charged, yet fall flat when used.

yeah it sat but I filled it before I stored it and charged it and toped it off and charged it again before I installed it. It's not clicking now but it's not starting. I'm just upset that I can't get it to work. I've been on public transpo all winter and I now that I have it out of storage I was hopeing to get away from the crazy smelly bus people in Columbus.

I tightened it up, and no problem since.

So I just got back from a 20 minute ride and I can't feel my fingers.

This is what I did that finally worked:
I noticed that while I was hitting the ignition button nothing was happeneing no matter what position that I had the choke at. So I started to randomly giveing it some gas. I noticed it would fire once then die. So being the musician that I am I started tapping my feet to the beat of the starter. I tried the first beat in a four beat pattern between the rotations (down beat), no luck. I tried the third beat(up beat). No luck. I tried the second(between the up and bown beats). FIRE!! So I contiued to to do so and after about 6 rotations it kicked up and started.

I let it Idle for about ten minutes then drove it out of the garage. HEAVEN!! (even if it's butt cold out)

I had this problem on my 05 S40......After the second charge I took the battery out.......NO WATER. Filled with proper liquid and charged it up, let it sit overnight after charging and battery still showed good. Put it back in and two rides later I'm back with the same problem. Took battery back out and it was bone dry. This was the Yusa that came when new. A new battery and the machine is happy.

Unfortunately, once a battery has gone dry one or more cells is usually damaged. If a battery has been more than about 1/4 empty, I make plans to get a new one ASAP.

It's ridiculous to have to mess with watering a battery in 2008.....(the one in my wife's bike is acting up)

I had the same problem about two weeks ago... Got it charged thought I was doin good got it to the gas station shut it off to fill up... Yeah no guessing here it wouldn't start! One of the biggest rain storms of the year got a jump from somebody rode home in the storm no glasses with a turtle shell helment..... :'(

New battery got put in about an hour later and she has been happy ever since!

I have a YUSA battery reading 12.05vdc with no load. Battery chemistry indicates about 25% charge at that voltage. And starting is difficult, I usually assist the starter with a light push-start.

I checked the water, the level was mostly OK. PO only road it 200 miles in two years and it sat in garage a lot.

I have ordered a Big Crank anyway but if the old battery can be salvaged then I might do so - Would a so-called battery tender with a desulfating charge cycle help?
