I'll have the engine casings finished by the weekend - waiting for a new block of polishing compound to arrive in the mail

Panels and tank are going to be satin black, head is now ported, 40 thou coming off the top of the cylinder, a cam and camchain are on their way from Lancer and I came across a slash cut open tailpipe (was gong to go for a Raask but $350 plus carriage isn't worth the extra power just yet).  I'm going to fabricate some extensions for the forward controls to shift them forward by a few inches, but not until I have some of the other bits back on the bike assembled.

Hello KwakNut,

I agree with Holodeck, except you'd be better off, selling them to me. I'll have them chromed again  Tongue

Ah - should have guessed.  Actually no.  I quite like the standard finish, which will contrast well with the chromed valve covers and polished side casings.
Maybe I'll polish the barrel and head exterior and fins at a later date when the cylinder coating eventually starts looking poor - for now it's fairly tidy.

Kwaknut. I'm doing something similar with mine. Polished casings, etc. Just deciding what colour to do the barrel, black or silver!? Mine is in pretty grotty order, so will need to be either!

I wouldn't minded of doing my paintwork Matt black, however have just done it Ford Imperial Blue with ghost flames on in silver. I'll post some pics sometime. The trouble is, she's taking so long to build back up, I quite fancy the matt black colour which has become popular! Roll Eyes

It's a matter of personal choice, but if you're painting the bike a dark blue, I'd suggest silver barrel.  It makes the bike look the business with dark paint.
Compare these two shots.  Admittedly the silver-barrelled one has had some well-balanced work done and looks better anyway, but the overall effect of the barrel is much cleaner and, for me, looks ten times better.
I think that the aluminium finish makes the barrel look bigger too - maybe that's just a macho thing wanting the thumper to look like it's a bigger motor, but I think it's a nice aspect of the look of the bike.
Down to personal preference though, some owners will much prefer a black barrel!!

Neither of those bikes pictured above is mine - I just used the pictures for comparison.  The lower picture is of one I found a shot of on this forum which I think looks great, modified by a guy in Finland I think.  I really like what he did, very similar to the look I'm aiming for.
