The speedo cable on my '06 was leaking. I had it hand tight, and it still leaked, turned it just a little with some pliers, PRESTO! I don't think an o-ring would seal completely, because even if it stops the leak right at the engine case, if it does'nt seal against the cable itself, crankcase pressure, and/or climbing oil, will force/carry oil up the cable to ultimatley cause it to leak from under the tank, makeing a heckofa mess (speaking from experience with a bad seal). If you look closely at the factory seal, you'll notice a "lip", that faces downward and is designed to prevent this. Most all fluid stoping seals have this "lip". I have'nt personally tried useing an o-ring, so if it works for anyone, great, just my thought. the factory seal is a metal re-enforced rubber seal.To get a new seal, you'd have to by the whole cable, which I think is around $35.
