petcock seal

I did the petcock conversion to manual and thanks to this site I got the correct bolts. My problem is even with a new oval oring and new washers and bolts I cannot stop the petcock from leaking. It seems to be at the bolts but I can't be sure. The info mentions an rtv but which one is impervious to fuel? I can't believe sealing this thing is this difficult, any suggestions? I finally went ahead and ordered a whole new assembly and I want to install it with no leaks. Please instruct a dummy!

Illustrated parts catalog of Ron Ayers mentioned seal under the bolt heads. Maybe that's your problem?

That's right - the OEM bolts are special with an integral thin rubber seal underneath.  I found the Permatex aviation gasket (brown goop) a good substitute.  It is slightly soluble in alcohol before drying and may not be so good if your fuel is blended with ethanol.

I used 2 of the new washers off of the microfiche and it still leaked. Where do youget the aviation permatex?
