How do I disable the "SIDESTAND SWITCH"
12/04/07 at 15:21:36
Hi,
Does anyone know how to disable or bypass the side stand switch as mine seems to be messing up every now and then so I can't put the bike into gear without it cutting out even when the stand is in the up position.
Thanx,
Glenn

Take a look at the schematic. Needs a simple bypass at the relay
and the ground on the double diode.
Then you can toss the whole thing.

If you do not have a schematic:
Remove the switch from the sidestand
Follow the wire(s) into the LH triangle cover
Disconnect the connector(s)
Connect the 2 wires of the bike's harness
Now the electrics on your bike think the sidestand is UP.
Don't forget the sidestand when you drive away!

Yep...you're right and I corrected above. Guess you've been up a little longer than I
Of course, I pulled the entire cable out so that's why I bypassed at the relay anyway.
(So, why didn't I remove the relay too? Good question...think I will

Now, ya wanna get rid of the clutch switch too? I did.
There's nothing quite as satisfying as starting it in gear with the sidestand down

Whatever happened to the good ol' days when riding off with the kickstand down separated the rookies from the "riders"

Yes, I do!
Once again, I did it by removing the switch cable assembly completely from the lever. Then under the tank, I put a jumper on the electrical harness connector.
Yep...it can be interesting without all the "safeties" in place. Usually about once a year, I push the starter button without pulling in the clutch. After that, I got it...that is until I sit on my spouse's bike and wonder why it won't start

I'm such a fan of KISS, that any "unnecessary feature" I want to do away with. I consider all this "carp" as well as manual safties on guns, as "unnecessary features"
Also, why do I want my doors to automatically lock on my car when I put it in gear?!? Yet another useless feature to me!

Yeah, and if you equate it to automobiles it's like those that have the automatic seat belt attached to the door.
No thank you.

Hmm. I am licensed to carry a pistol, and my weapon of choice is a 1911...carried cocked and locked. I'd sure hate to tote it around without that safety...
I wired around my clutch switch... I like to start one handed a lot, but the sidestand switch I was fine with...I don't forsee myself ever needing to drive with the stand down...

So what does the manual safety on the left side do that the backstrap safety does not? I have a 1911 as well, and never use the manual safety. Also really like my Ruger Super Blackhawk single-action 44 mag, the safety is between your ears.
You don't put your finger on the trigger unless you intend to unleash fire.
Works for both guns and motorcycles
