recent engine issues

Hi

Ive been looking through these forums for the last couple of weeks and the information available has given me a better insight into my s40 2005 then the manual ever would  Smiley

I recently had trouble running my s40, it would travel 1/4 a mile tops then backfire and die. It wouldnt start up unless the bike was left to stand for a while but then it would do the same thing over and over again. luckily it was covered by the warranty so i took it back the garage and got them to look at it.

They said that water had got in the engine which seemed strange for an air cooled bike..

Picked it up rode about 15 miles then same problem reappeared so again took it back to the garage a little rattled because they "fixed" it.
left the bike with them for a couple of days and got a call saying the datatool alarm system 3 was cutting off the mains and the bike runs fine without it so ive had it taken out and so far its run without any problems

has anyone heard of alarm/immobiliser systems causing this sort of problem for bikes?

P.S. its the standard factory spec 7000 miles no mods apart from the datatool system 3

Its the most annoying alarm system ever.. kinda glad i got rid to be honest plus the area i live in isnt that bad yet lol

The alarm was fitted by the garage but i think the previous owner had it fitted as they don't sell the LS650 with data tool systems fitted so they wont cover it under their warranty

When i picked up the bike they said that the data tool had a "bad connection" to the rest of the bike which was causing the problem.

They didnt say if it was the processor or a bad install only it was broken and causing a bad connection..

check with your insurance carrier/underwriter.. dont think the ls justifies having an alarm...
