Posts: 72	Stuck, seized air mixture screw 11/26/07 at 13:56:43 I recently took a look at the air mixture screw and I realized that the haedis mangled and it's stuck in there. The previous owner really jacked that part. Does anyone have any idea on how to remove the screw? Jim

If you have a good grinder and can visualize it, any old bit of the correct size can be sharpened backwards and work. It is better than the CW ones as it un-jams the stuck parts rather than jamming it tighter. Max

That metal is just there for the brass plug anyway. Most carbs don't have the mixture screw recessed like that anyway. Just a thought...

And mine is only 1 1/2 turns out--running real lean, sputtering, popping, backfiring. I had lined up to buy a carb from someone on the forum here, but I never heard back from him. It's still rideable, but embarassing every time I let off throttle.

Before drilling anything out try this.

1) Spray some WD-40 or Liquid Wrench (or like product) in the opening.
2) take a screwdriver and lightly tap the screw.
3) Let it sit a bit.
4) Spray again and tap again.
5) Then try to turn it in (clockwise) first maybe just a few degrees.
6) If it goes in a tiny tiny bit. ... Spray again and try to unscrew ONLY a tiny bit. repeat and repeat each time turning a few more degrees.

If it didn't turn in any, then drill.

Remember, it is very easy to "oops" when drilling. It should be the last resort.
