Howdy Barry and All:
As I've just recently been down this road on my '95 LS I thought I'd share my findings. The stock shocks eye to eye measure 10.5 inches. I'd been shopping the ebay for a set of progressive shocks in the 11' or 11.5" range. Each half inch length increase increase the travel of the shocks by that much also. I found what I thought would be the perfect pair of 11.5" in metric size grommets. All was rosy. they arrived in a Progressive Suspension box marked 11.5". When I measured they were 13". What the heck, I thought. It's worth a try. With the originals off an jacking up on the chassis and prying down on the wheel, we were able to get to about 12.5"- still of half inch short of bolting them on. And yes, there was belt interference and probably other limiting factors.
Bottom line I returned the mismatched/misrepresented shocks for a refund. I'm still shopping for better rear shocks, preferably Progressive Syspension, but you reminded me of that shock from J.C. Whitney. The price is right, but do you know who makes them? Any info on the quality? Do they match springs to specific bike and applications? Maybe I'll give them a call.
Hope that helps you on your quest for a more comfortable ride.
Adios, David
