Peak horsepower is a very incomplete measure of a motorcycle's usable performance. For general usage, a motorcycle with a wider less peaky horsepower curve is better than one with a narrow if higher curve. A nice fat and flat torque curve means you can twist and go no matter what gear you happen to be in. Ergonomics and gearing are as important, if not more important, that horsepower. If you and the bike do not mesh all the power in the world is useless.

I dunno about the tech section, but I have a few on my web site for comparison:

I find the comparison to the 883 Sportster particularly interesting, considering the weight of each bike. Also, there's one there for a Buell Blast putting out over 50HP!

If they can, we can... I think. Note that even the modified 883 doesn't make quite 50HP. There may already be someone there, but I want to see a dyno chart and modification list of a Savage pushing 50HP !!!

Yup, might as well short-shift on a Savage; because wringing it all the way out isn't going to gain you anything.

And that's where I think the "hidden HP" lies; is in getting the motor to breath well enough to "run out the back door" as they say.

I know that Lancer bases his Cam and Kits to play on the Savage's existing strong points in the low and middle RPM torque range; and that's as it should be for best street performance; but I don't think the engine will ever reach its full potential until it can pull all the way up to redline.

HP = torque*RPMs/5252
