met347 Ex Member	trickle charge to battery 11/04/07 at 15:00:21 I'm having a little trouble figuring out how to take the battery out to install a trickle charger for the winter. looks like I might have to remove the seat?? any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Both battery posts are visible without removing it, at least they are on mine.

but, it may be easier to remove the seat if you don't have short screwdrivers.

Remove tool box cover, remove tool holder, remove neg battery cable, remove positive, remove battery.

don't loose anything Grin

Of course, since you have to take the seat off anyway, then why not just connect the trickle charger to positive (red) on the starter relay and any good ground place?

All ya gotta do is lift the little rubber cover. Can always disconnect the black and yellow wires if they are in your way.

Forget about removing the toolbox cover, etc... Tongue

Consider a system like Battery Tender... you just attach the charging leads to the battery terminal (along with normal connections) and then just leave it in place year around. The charger just plugs into the leads whenever needed and unplug when done. This really cuts down the hassle of the yearly "take out the battery" frustration.

These chargers run about $35 and includes all hardware.

Already did that...only difference is that I connected the charger plug into the harness (similar to above) so that I don't have to mess with it for any kind of battery work. On my spouse's, the plug is just above the right side frame cover. On mine, it's inside the toolbox (along with the CDI)

How do you remove the seat? The first thing you do is buy a manual...

Then you bend way way WAY OVER, and look under the edge of the seat and find the 2 bolts you need to remove. I'll let you figure out the wrench size...

...and when you have that done then we'll try to find the battery Tongue
