tiga270 Ex Member	Mobil 1 V-Twin Oil 10/19/07 at 11:33:14 Has anybody used Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50 oil in their Savage? It's a synthetic, any comments? I'm in south Florida with hot weather most of the year and thought the 20W-50 would be fine. My local Super Walmart has a nice motorcycle department now and they are offering this oil.

It is safe for wet clutch applications and works well. There are many posts to that effect also. A couple of searches will turn some up.

I use it. Walmart was out when I went there, so went to "Cycle Gear" and paid more.

Idle oil pressure did go up, fm 2-4 psig w 10W-40 at idle to 5-7 psig at idle (both w/ a hot engine).

No clutch slip (Origianl clutch , 12K on bike). Even when I unknowingly had the front wheel 4-6 inches off the ground Sunday, "going for it" at a stoplight against the two nieghbors on their big Harleys. I realized what happened when I shifted into second and it came down.

I wonder if the others used the auto version of Mobil 1.

It is formulated specifically for motorcycle use, so there is no possibility of it leading to wet clutch failure. It is better for you to run the heavier oil in the climate you are in.

I have been using Mobil 1 in all my vehicles since 1976. Raced my Ducati's, have it in my Honda 650 GL interstate and in my '07 Suzie. However I use 15W50 extended-use Mobil 1 which has almost identical specs as V-Twin. I just feel they can charge more for V-Twin oil. It's also easier to find the 15W50 and it has NO friction modifiers!. Never have had clutch slippage. I do use regular oil for the first 1500 miles to seat the rings. Mobil one is a little too slick for that. Also use 5W30 in my cars.

This is absolutely true for regular petroleum oils since they ALL have a tendancy to break down. This does not apply to full synthetics which have no such weakness in the base stock, the detergent package is another story entirely...

Mobile 20-50 V-Twin is almost as good as Amsoil 10-40 and 20-50 motorcycle oils which are the absolute best. I wouldn't recommend Mobile1 10-40 not because of the weight of the oil, but because of the weaker detergent package.
