The exhaust I built for it is a piece of 1 1/2 inch pipe, straight through, and I have an open carb, no air filter.  I suspect it may need a bit more fuel than a jardine and paper filter.

With the mods listed below I did an Indicated 93mph with a little bit left on the throttle. With the header leaking slightly is does 88mph on the speedo. I weigh 200ld in street clothes so with riding gear on about 220ld. I have national Cycle Windcreen too.

Mine pulls strong till 85 indicated. Topped out at 95 indicated. Granted, I have a MAC,1/2 spacer,152.5 main and K&N drop-in filter. But there are a lot of variables to consider. Altitude( I'm at 300 feet),temperature (the cooler the more HP) wind, rider weight and profile, tire pressure etc, etc. Stock mine pooped out at about 87 indicated under same conditions.  Also in PDX. NW-SAV is your's also white? Bought in Orgon City? Cause I looked at that one to buy. Sold before I got back. So I bought a white one from Hillsboro. Grin

I took my 2001, unmodified, out on I-10 in the predawn hours. I think it was late march or early april. I wound out every gear, hugging the tank, after riding about 30 miles going downhill with the wind at my back I got to the mid 90's.  Shocked

Yeah, I'm not gonna apologize.  I'm a young dude, but an old-school hot-rodder, an ASE-certified mechanic, and a little reckless.  Ride it like you stole it, or leave the thing in the garage.  You'll know it's me coming 'cause you'll hear me from a mile away, and I'll be passing you with a big grin on me face Smiley

A little different twist on the question:

If you find yourself stuck behind someone going 63 mph on a flat section of  two lane country road, how much difficulty would you have passing him?

Bear Rider - A stock savage runs about 15 mph per 1000 rpm. 60 mph will be about 3950 - 4000 rpm.  Given this rule of thumb, 75 will be about 5000 rpm and should be nearing the top of the capacity, but definitely not a ceiling. Just look at Lancer's modified numbers.

My stock '02 topped out at about 83 with windscreen and 220 lb rider, before jetting the carb. With stock exhaust and carb jetting now tops at 89 and runs much more smoothly.

The motor has lots of torque in the 3000 to 4500 rpm range, so it has a good kick with a throttle twist and accelerates quickly. It will get around that 63 mph cager with room to spare.

My $ 0.02

Thanks.

My current road bike, a 250 Rebel is much like the original volkswagen. It will go down the highway at 70, but you best not try to pass anything going faster than 55, lest you end up as an embossed decoration on a semi's bumper.  Shocked

Alrighty, I'll let everyone call BS, but I JUST DID THIS Sunday...  My Savage has an open shotgun pipe, a 162 main, and stocker pilot.  It also has a 17/43 chain conversion.  On US 70, on the flats, Me (220 lbs.) and passenger (140 lbs.)  hit 1oo mph as indicated by my Savage speedo.  I dunno if that's accurate that high, but it tipped over to three digits.

Just for the sake of discussion, a K&N pod is as good as an open carb.  I'm just not sucking in June bugs.  The Raask exhaust is an 1 1/2" straight through.  Only difference is a little packing for sound.  It's a shot gun with a silencer Tongue

My exhaust port has also been opened up 2.5 MM...

...I recently tried a 157.5 and got small amounts of black smoke and soot, plus the plug was blackened.  So I changed it back to a 155.  The 162 is 3 sizes above that and I was just suggesting that if you aren't running clean then you are just wasting gas.

K&N pod...

Stock exhaust port...

My exhaust port...

My exhaust pipe...

I also forgot to mention that I'm running this little cutie that I got from Lancer...

I just haven't (and probably won't) try to find the top speed with my 45/17 chain conversion either.  I don't want to look like I stole it Grin

It's nice to look down a port and see the valves or it would be if they were there.
