I've been to an indicated 85 twice on mine...just to test.  I don't do that often, and I didn't try to go faster.

Vtail installed a digital speedo on his bike.  Nice clean job.

Anyway, he had stored his highest speed run into memory and showed it to me the other day.  With the OEM windshield installed his '07 made it to 87.7.

Update: just the other night going home before my freeway exit (on the flat, no wind temp 55 degrees, my weight 185 lbs dressed) opened her up sitting upright behind OEM fairing got up to 95 indicated. When I got home my Sigma (very,very accurate) indicated 89.97 max/mph so the speedo gets a little optimistic at those speeds. I feel it still would have gone a little faster but I had to get off the exit. Mine pulls strong till 85 indicated. Granted, I have a MAC,1/2 spacer,152.5 main and K&N drop-in filter. But there are a lot of variables to consider. Altitude( I'm at 300 feet),temperature (the cooler the more HP) wind,rider weight and profile,tire pressure etc,etc. Stock mine pooped out at about 87 indicated under same conditions. Smiley

I was turning 6200 rpm on my ENM digital tach. Also the Mean Piston Speed gets up there at 3824 ft/min. At this rpm the torque has dropped substantial. I would have to drop the gearing to get to or maybe a little over the ton, like maybe 17/45 which means chainconversion.

 Under 3,500 ft/min     Good reliability
 3,500-4,000 ft/min     Stressful, needs good design
 Over  4,000 ft/min     Very short life
 
5600 rpm= 3454 ft/min=81 mph true groundspeed. On most bikes that's about 85 indicated on the optomistic speedo. So a stock bike will be hard to get into the stressful area unless you run it off a cliff (Very Stressfull)

Alrighty, I'll let everyone call BS, but I JUST DID THIS Sunday...  My Savage has an open shotgun pipe, a 162 main, and stocker pilot.  It also has a 17/43 chain conversion.  On US 70, on the flats, Me (220 lbs.) and passenger (140 lbs.)  hit 1oo mph as indicated by my Savage speedo.  I dunno if that's accurate that high, but it tipped over to three digits.

I took nice ride today and hit some highway on the way. Hit 75 easy and that's with a big Slipstreamer shield and bags. Stock carb and exhaust. 85+ is not out of the question. I just don't like how my hands and feet feel like I've been hit with a taser.  Cheesy

Don't know what he was drinking but from the size of that main jet, I'd say that his bike was definitely a bit over served Tongue

I'm in Florida, so, no problem finding flat roads here.
2005 S-40
160 lbs.
90 mph.
Likes good food, long walks on the beach, etc.


80-90 is a chore though.

I took mine for a spin this afternoon and just for giggles, pegged the throttle.

I got my mild-modded Savage up to 85 (indicated) before I chickened out and backed off...

5-11
210lbs

The RD250LC Yam was the first 250 in uk to do 100mph, and it did this with a genuine 31bhp.

The Suzuki T250 built from 1967-1972 would do the ton. It had 33 hp and a six speed transmission. I guess they imported them into the UK. Not bad for a 250 Grin

Not drinking anything....the Savage is one of the smaller bikes I've owned... a hundred miles an hour isn't terrible.  It's fast, and dangerous, but compared to sporbikes speeds, that's a grandma stroll.  And it's a used bike, yes, but not abused... You never open your bike a little?

As far as over-jetted, I appreciate the concern for the size, but it seems to run peachy...I kept going up until it decided to run well, and I'd say that it performs nicely.  The exhaust I built for it is a piece of 1 1/2 inch pipe, straight through, and I have an open carb, no air filter.  I suspect it may need a bit more fuel than a jardine and paper filter.  I need a to get a bigger pilot, but I've been busy Smiley.

Not really bragging, per se, just trying to explain that bikes will do whatever you build them to.  80-85 sounded like a good starting point to me Smiley

Liam we're just poking fun at you and I strongly believe that with that 17/43 gearing, the ton is do-able cause with that (gearing) you're in a better part of the torque curve. We just have a hard time with the fact that you had a passenger on it. Wink Grin

I've hit 90 a few times, usally 85 pretty easy sitting up. It is as it come from the fac except for the gas, oil and a backrest. 06 w/65oomi on it. With the right mods I think it is possible to get more. I don't have the money or knowlege to do any. 8)
