When did this forum start allowing "guests" to post? I always thought you had to be a member. Oh well, he's "off into the breeze", so it's back to normal in here. Maybe somewhere down the road, he'll learn to respect his elders, and maybe even follow some sound advise. Does this reply put me in the 90% group, or the 10% group? Wink

I think he shows up as 'guest' because he deleted his own account.

I believe that's a pretty good assessment. When I read this thread earlier he had the usual stats under his name as the rest of us do.

Okay, everyone...maybe I was wrong.  Sorry.

I just can't stand it when someone defends their actions even when they are obviously wrong anyway.

Studs stretch?  Sure they do.  The compression of the gaskets is designed for the same amount of pressure anyway.  The manual isn't a just suggestion, it is the guide.  If studs stretch, it very well might be due to someone over-torquing them in the first place.

You don't do things your own way, unless you really are a qualified engineer.  The proof is in the crappy spare parts for sale on eBay.

He didn't know what he was doing, and I called him on it  Maybe my technique sucked, but I was still right.

PS - Studs don't stretch that much.  Every time, I've disassembled mine the nuts were still loaded with plenty of torque.

Well, you were a bit like a shark who smelled blood in the water and went right for the kill.

But who tears apart their engine before checking out the electricals first?  It's usually something simple.

But hey, he had poor grammar skills.

I had no quarrel with the way you handled that, I may have handled it differant, but you're right. Check the manual and do what it says.

After all, engines are a precise piece of engineering, everything has to be correct for it to function properly.

Even the mods we come up with we first make sure that they will function safely within the engineering parameters of our machines. Even the more outrageous ones.

Hey I had no issue with Gregs answer either. The guy didn't exactly say how he got to the breather point without basic troubleshooting first.
And nothing in the Clymers manual says "torque until it hurts". In fact, it says quite the opposite...

Just glad Greg's been really patient with my many questions...  Grin
