tank overflows (Read 6 times)

splash07 Serious Thumper Offline Posts: 911 Charleston, SC Gender:	tank overflows 09/17/07 at 15:05:55 sometimes i am having some serious overflow from the gas cap right after i have filled the tank. tried filling the tank while the bike is standing straight up (not on the kickstand) and still it overflows. Once i put the cap on and start her up there it goes all over the bike. any ideas?

Mine leaks when the rpm's are in a certain range (but without a tach, I can't tell you what the range is)>

The heat and also the vibrations will cause it to leak. If you look in the tank you will see the bottom of the filler neck. Do not fill it past that.

I have had that happen when I only slightly went past the edge of the tube under the cap. I hold the bike upright as I fill, then, stop when the gas reaches the bottom edge of the tube at the filler, then, I give the bike a wiggle, I dunno why, but it seems to help. I have had it belch fuel as I ride off several times, really distressing. Done it since it was new, so I dont seeit as Old Gasket issues.

A sealed cap is the only way to stop that, but then as someone has pointed out before you'll suck dents in your tank...not to mention the fact that you'll continually run out of gas and have to let the tank "breathe"...

Anyway, back to the problem...let's think this through.

You fill up the tank and then move the bike and gas spills out. Hmmm.

Note to self: Put less gas in the tank next time.
