question about breather
09/16/07 at 22:29:45

OK so i have read in a few threads to keep the crankcase breather above the engine. Why is this? i have thaught on this for  awhile and cant come to a reasonable conclusion. I am sure there is a reason that makes sense.

One of the things about a breather filter is that the pipe should go up hill from the engine to the filter, can't tell from this pic but it does.

It lets the oil mist condense and run back down the hose into the head

Think about what a breather does, and then think gravity...

Then pull the plug on your airbox drain. Tongue

well this all makes perfect sence, I will be relocating the filter soon. I also replaced my air box with the cone style, does this mean that oil will be blown through the cone filter, should i worry about this? When i had the airbox though i did notice a lot of oil builds up in the bottom in a short period of time.

How can oil be blown through the cone filter?  The breather and air filter are not the same.

What do you call a lot of oil build-up in the airbox?

Ok well, greg is right it was not coming throught the carb but rather through the breather hose when it was hooked to the airbox. I feel stupid for not realizing this. and i think there was a lot in there because i never nor did the previous owner ever drain the airbox at any point.
