Electrical problem

Hello, can anyone help? 1987 Savage 13K miles. Rode the bike last night, this morning wouldn't start, no lights nothing. Roll-started, it ran but bogged down when turn sigals applied. After 15 min ride it wouldn't re-start. Still no lights no nothing. Checked and charged the battery-its great. Found a bad main fuse, replaced it, bike started-loud sound from starter. When I turned it off and tried to restart-no lights no nothing. I guess a ground fault somewhere, checked all connectors today-only thing I found bad was the signal generator. Any thoughts??

Clymer's.........interesting company.. They have to make tiny changes so to prevent the Copyright lawyers.

Factory service manual has an "ignitor" module (sometimes known as electronic ign control module, but I do't see any ref's to CDI...hmmmm). Also there is a "Regulator / Rectifier" module.

So, which would the signal gen be?? I'm betting on the ignitor......

Posts: 25	Re: Electrical problem Reply #6 - 09/15/07 at 17:40:10 Well would a bad cell in a battery give you good power once and then suddenly nothing...I mean, lights aren't dim etc just totally dead. I would normally look toward a bad alternator on my truck. But the continuity check on the stator is ok.

The manual tells you to check the red and green wires for resistance of 200-240 ohms. Mine is non-continuous. Figure if it is some sort of electronic thing i could have blown it roll starting

It's for 86 thru 99, I have a '01 and so far it covers everything. Also, that's where's it says the ignitor is.
