Check screw lenght.
When I was playing with mounts for my luggage rack I used a slighty longer S.S. screw in the rear mount. It pinched the wire (also left). When I replace with original screw the signals worked again. (yea, I know, I have to take it apart and seal the nicked wire....winter project....).
Turns out the wire was totally severed! But NOT where I put the screw in, but further forward in the area where it just entered the headlight bucket. I guess removing the forks and hanging the blinker up higher with a zip tie must have pulled the severed strands apart.

You take the blue pill the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe.
You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.
