Supertrap for 2006 S40?
09/04/07 at 07:39:25

Hi All,

A representative from the supertrap folks told me that they haven't done a fitment since model year 2003.

Does this mean i can't put a supertrap on my 2006?

Anyone know for sure?

Thanks.

For sure you can fit the Supertrap but you need to trim 1/4" off the exhaust header outer sleeve (it is double walled in the muffler clamp area) so the muffler slides on far enough for both bolt mounting holes to line up.  Suzuki must have made the slight change in pipe design around 05 - 06.  I found a dremel tool with abrasive wheel just the thing to slice through the outer sleeve to peel it off the inner pipe.  No biggie.

I had a rough time getting my Trapp on. My 2005 model finally took it, after I used a grinder to cut the header pipe. Be aware of the sparks flying & the battery vent tube. The fumes from the battery ignited, exploding the battery. The split battery case shot corrosive fluids all around inside & on the bike. I spent hours cleaning with baking soda & water solution. Still, signs of rust are there. Ospho has shut them down. If you are using a grinder, make sure the battery vent tube is clear from anything that might ignite the hydrogen in the fumes.

Have you guys seen the lil` 13" Supertrapp slip on universal can?--it`s in the Dennis Kirk catalog, and I called the ST company the other day...they say it only weighs a couple pounds- it`s aluminum! It comes w/ a weld on tab or you can get a 4" clamp [DK again]. Of course you`ll have to have a 10degree extension pipe made up.

It`s got a kinda cool shape, weight`s right, price is about $160 something, I`m leaning towards it.

Plus if you make a bracket, you can ditch that whole muffler hanger. Probably loose maybe 10-15 more lbs of iron.  Part # 43-962. I`ve already shaved about 15lbs off my `07 and it does help.

I asked him if they would make those 10 d extentions available, and he didn`t think so. It`s a shame, cause they make that piece already and weld it into their regular slip on.

I`m gonna ask a local muffler shop if he can whip me up a new stainless header, and avoid the clusterphuck ephect.
