You only changed bar's?????

Did you disconnect the battery when you were doing that?

Is throttle cable on carb correctly?

regarding sleeping hands...

turn the bar so the bar ends droop.

or the forward position is causing you to place more pressure on your hands.  use taller riser.

I am sorry that I don't have the fix for your pre-ignition problem.  I just wanted to stop in to say that I really like what you have done with your bike.  When, (if?) I ever get done with the GS I am planning to turn my Savage into a bobber style custom.  I just try to keep it to working on one bike at a time.

The pilot circuit seemed fine- all I changed was the main to a 152.5 from a 155 and it ran great. The plug is a brand new Champion. I didn't have time to pull it before I left for work today to see what it looked like. It can't be crudded up that bad after 20 miles...

Unless the engine is just complete cr@p.

I really don't want to tear it apart. I just got it back together.

Anyway, I'll check the plug in the morning and see what's up with the valves as well as track down any kind of air leaks around the jug (exhaust & carb) It did start puking gas when I shut down the last time. Maybe it was just the float sticking and flooding out...

I really don't care for Mikuni carbs...

Thanks!  And good luck with yours! I've been in love with the bobber look for a long time.

BTW, I'm starting to think maybe what I was hearing as pre-ignition was just the back-firing being modulated by the FF helmet I was wearing at the time. I have a lot of time sitting here at work to rethink all the symptoms- it just drives me nuts that I can't go home and work on it!

Pulled the plug this morning- nice, even, satiny, carbon fouled after less than thirty miles...  Angry

What do you guys think? Take it down to a 150 and decrease the pilot jet as well? Hotter plug? Valves? Timing chain? Handlebars?

I just wanna ride, man...

If anyone is interested, I think I figured out a couple of the problems-

one) the valves were way out of spec
b) the needle valve and float assembly in my Whunnderful Mikuni carb are cr@p.

and...

well, I guess that's about it.

Oh, and the petc0ck is garbage as well. I already did the manual conversion, but I think I'm just going to convert the whole thing to on and off (with an inline filter, of course)

Other than that, I am really ejoying the hell out of this bike.  Grin
