Highway Bars ....Info Please
08/18/07 at 22:39:11

Can anyone tell me if highway bars will protect the bike in case of dropping bike?

Will it Help protect the rider,in case of dropping bike?

I do understand the stock S40 engine guard may do little ,but I'm thinking more on line of a normal size Highway Bar.

Thanks for any info!

the 2 that i'm aware of are the suzuki part, and the wingerline part. the suzuki part wont help at all (we have one), they are for looks and mounting highway pegs. i dont know if the winger will keep the bike off the ground or not. you can do a search for wingerline, give it 500 or more days, and you'll see several posts about them.

Hi....Thumperclone,

Does the stock one help? or have you not dropped your bike yet and found out?

I  would even get the stock one if I thought it would help. But so far I think most ppl mention the Wingerline(bigger ones)

Also I saw a Savage with a Mustache(sp) bar and the owner had put it on....think it came from a Harley!I would do that but dont know what size/type of Harley it was for.(forgot to ask)
Would probably need right one for holes to fit!?

Hope others will post and give me info as requested Smileyon the protection of highway bars.

I want to do it if it will help, even temporarily while I'm still learning.(but don't have money to waste)

AzJay

Thanks for your post and info!

BTW,Wanted to add,I didnt like the looks of the Mustache bar or at least the one I saw but....IF it will protect you some,I'm willing to use it temporarily.

Would like more info.....as something got my leg big time when I dropped it!! I'm thinking it was the foot peg.

Would rather not go thru that again.....It took about 4 -5 days for swelling to go down enough to feel comfortable again Smiley

Mine has the Wingerline Highwaybars and it extends far enough out that it would protect parts of the bike but I do it mostly to help keep the bike off my legs in the event of a slide.

Savage_Rob,

Thanks for the info......and,the main reason I want them is to protect me Smiley Mirrors and stuff are much easier to replace.

If I'm hurt,I can't ride!
(It was my leg that took the longest to heal.)

Would you do me a big favor though....Would you tell me the width of those bars? or approximate.

Thanks so much!

IMO if you're looking for protection the OEM bars are a waste of money. Wish I would'nt have bought them

Yes, i would think now the oem guards arent much good unless maybe you put highway pegs on them, but still dont know if that would help.
Maybe someone who's done that will post and let us know, just for more info on this subject.

If I was mechanically minded I'd be tempted to make some Highway bars Smiley Looks like it would be in much demand, here anyway. But would have to be able to make them cheaper than the Wingerline Smiley

But I'm going to have to get the money for the Wingerline I guess....no other options that I see.

Thanks for all help!

BTW I didnt see anything on this in the Tech forum....maybe due to few options.Or maybe its in there somewhere and I just couldnt find it.

Where's Rob??

Huh?

The Wingerline highwaybars are approximately 27" at the top/widest.

One more question:

Are the Wingerline bars hard to put on?

You may be right on the OEM bars.  But a friend got in a hurry one day, forgot to put the kickstand down & down goes the bike.  She said the standard bars did make it easier to pick up the bike by herself.

I do still wonder ,"a little bit", if foot pegs were added to the (S40)oem bars/guards ,would that work pretty good....but NO ONE has said yet Smiley

Plus I dont even know if they make foot pegs to fit that type of bar......only because I dont know much about the different types of  foot pegs or mounting them on.

OK, I've gotten it all out now Smiley Nothing else  that I wonder about as far as hwy bars/pegs  Smiley
