When I ride, the speedometer on the gas tank rattles extremely loud! Its driving me crazy! I can't even hear the engine. Is it possible to tighten up the speedometer? I looked in the technical reference section, but there was nothing on this problem.

I'm not sure how comfortable I am in taking of the tank, I was hoping to fix the problem without having to remove it!.
It takes 2 hours!!! Oy!
I'll have to work up the courage to tackle that problem, it's not like I know anyone (who I'm comfortable even asking) that can help out when I'm stuck. And then I end up with no bike. I know I have to though, it's just too much of an annoyance!

Tank not that hard to take off. I do recommend draining and taking petc0ck off as it will clear the frame easier. Otherwise expect to scratch the frame.

Putting back on not too hard either, two half cups on tank have to get on the two rubber pads on the frame. A good light is big help here.

I know there is post to drain tank but here is process, take fuel line off carb (leave on petc0ck). Get gas can and put fuel line in it. Turn petc0ck to PRI (prime) and let drain.

Yeah, probably a good idea. I wound up wrapping that part of my frame with electrical tape but pulling the petc0ck is simple after the tank is drained. And having the tank drained makes it easier to work with.

Thanks guys, I think I'll copy paste all the instructions (yours and the ones on the tech site) in Word and print it. I can just imagine myself accidentally thumping the bike over on top of the laptop! Two nightmares in one (lol).
And if not the bike then some oil or gasoline.
Tomorrow's my day off, I think I'll try it.
Sure hope any of you are going to be online tomorrow in case I hit a brick wall (figuratively!).

Hi Savage_Rob,
I've just started to take the tank off, but I already ran into a glitch. The Clymers manual says to turn the fuel switch to OFF.
I don't have an OFF choice. What's up with that?

Are you going to drain the fuel first? If so leave it straight down until you have the container and hose in place then turn the lever to res. It will drain most of the fuel out then. If you are going to leave the valve in place and move the tank back, rear to the left and then up and off, just leave it on the run position. It is nice if you don't have much fuel in tank when you start this process as it makes it lighter and easier to handle. Also it is really nice to have a second pair of hands to either hold the tank while you carefully, but forcefully, pull apart the wire connector for the dash lights. Watch the routeing beforehand on the speedo cable. Max

I have to get the gas out, cause I just filled her up to the max yesterday. I had it on reserve cause the tank was almost empty, but it ran so sh1tty that I filled her up. Won't the gas come pouring out when I remove the fuel hose? That's why I wanted to put it on OFF first so I could hold a pan underneath to catch the gas. I can have my son help with removing the cable.
