Battery Replacement Question
08/16/07 at 05:58:53

I have the Clymer's manual and I was following the directions to replace my battery. In the manual the breather hose is clearly pictured right next to the positve lead. Mine is NOT there...I have a 98 Savage, can someone tell me where it is???

I replaced my stock battery with a heavy duty sealed battery and have no need for the breather hose.  If yours is sealed ...........no need hose.  Hope this helps

I have a Varta battery, don't know if it's the recommended model or not, but it's 12V and 14A and it has the hose on the negative lead's side. I guess it's just about how they designed the battery.

Thanks for the responses!!! After removing the old battery, it was indeed a sealed battery. The replacement battery that I just bought has a breather hose next to the positive lead. The parts mgr told me that they sold me the replacement with the breather hose because they did not have any sealed batteries in stock at the time I made my purchase. Next time, I am buying the sealed battery  Wink, because getting to this battery to keep checking the levels is going to be a pain.

Originaly the Savage comes with a conventional battery, so You did not get screwd by the sales person. Latter just about everybody does an upgrade-installing maintenance-free battery. If You go with Yuassa, the two batteries are:
YB14L-B2 /regular/
YTX14AHL-BS /maintenance-free/
