Just joining and getting started on my build. I picked up a 2000 for a pretty fair deal. Stripping her down and doing a "bobber" build. Tons of great info here... thanks to all contributors!

I'm the mechanic for my wife's 98 LS650. We live in the SF Bay Area. We bought her the bike about 10 years ago with about 7,000 miles on it. It's been a great bike for her, because she's height challenged and the bike can be ridden 70 mph loaded with camping gear. She's ridden it about 21,000 trouble free miles. Last summer after my retirement, we rode and camped through 6 states, about 2,500 miles from the Bay Area, thru Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana. Made it as far as Yellowstone. We love to ride the California coast. Highway1 is spectacular. ride safe.  Steve

lol, I'm also 'height challenged' (but only from the waist down) ... and the Savage is just great!

How do everybody! To preface, I just wanna let everyone know this is old_rider's son. I chose my forum name as a tribute to him, since it's a handle he'd used for things in the past.

I'm unfortunately not riding, since I don't have my Class D just yet (though I can actually operate our motorcycles. I just ride them in the neighborhood for the time being) but I'll be getting around to it soon enough.

I inherited old_rider's Savage 650, and his Ninja 300, and fully intend to ride them both when I can. Hopefully I'll be able to make a trip to meet some of you guys before too long  Grin

Paul here from Portland OR.  I just picked up a 2012 LS40 with only about 600 miles on it.  Pulled the idle mix plug and adjusted so no longer riding lean.  I also ordered the older style Pillions from ebay and will install soon soz I can add a sissy and backrest.  I used to rebuild 70's and 80's 2-stroke twins, but haven't sat on a motorcycle since getting married about 8 years ago.  Anyway, I'm looking forward to all the weekend tinkering that's now right at my fingertips!!

Hi everyone. By way of introduction, I am about to buy a used S40 Boulevard from a neighbor across the street. I plan to restore it, probably using a RYCA  kit. I'm not much of a wrench, so a minimum amount of engine work will be done, other than what I can do without cracking the case.  Haven't decided on details yet, so I'll be lurking and asking questions, a lot of question.

New to Suzuki, but not bikes or riding. Looking forward to learning from you folks.

Live in Maryland, retired. Have a lot of bike trips planned for this summer, so progress on this project bike will be slow.

Hi! I'm MT from Minnesota. I've been lurking for about a month. I bought a 2014 S40. This is my first bike and the first time I rode her was this weekend, put on about eight hours between yesterday and today. She's a trooper!

My lack of knowledge about motorcycles didn't stop me from figuring out how to switch the pegs out for floorboards.   Smiley

Good to meet you Tripwire.  Your dad was a good man.  I met him on several occasions during our mountain rides in the Smokies.
Welcome to the Forum and I hope to meet you some day before long.
Ride safe young man.

Hello, I'm Fatboy.
I got My class M and My bike last year. There were many trials and tribulations involved, as God regularly sees fit to remind Me I am His personal sitcom, apparently.
It's an 07' I bought used from a dealer with about 4,300 miles on it. It's a fun little thing. I really dig the single large cylinder design, as My main interest in motorbikes are as simple, easy to maintain transports.
Since getting it, I've returned the handlebar's position to stock (the arm that holds the handlebar was reversed and "pointing away" by the previous owner), added a toolbag, some tiny-as-hell saddlebags, and a Slipstreamer "classic" 22" windscreen, as I live in the frozen hellscape known as Wisconsin, and as such a windscreen makes riding in our usual God-awful long cold seasons more pleasant.

Being a big fat hairy goon with a body like ten pounds of lard and hair clippings in a nine pound bag (275lbs and 6,1"), I look and fit on the bike like a trained bear in a circus act, and badly need a set of those 5" peg extensions the Ed. L makes, which is the main reason I'm here. I only ride the bike in short hops around town right now, because the ergonomics suck on this thing and have Me sitting on My tailbone, like everyone else complains about this bike. Makes longer rides into the country less pleasant. I hope the extensions allow Me to fit a little better, and do some proper cruising out in the farmlands.

For the future, I've got a raptor petcock to install (been too lazy and busy to do it yet), and I've read up on the carb spacer mod. I'm broke as hell the moment, but after I get My crap together, I'll be having the saddle altered and reupholstered, (better ergo, and want brown leather). I've got some brown leather with a western floral design on it I want to us to make fancy-pants handle grips. will probably look into the chain tensioner mod next year.

My interests include long walks on the beach, cooking badly, and being an anti-social recluse (if I ever win the lottery, I am absolutely building an underground bunker in the middle of nowhere).

Hello, I'm Chance, aged 47, and I live in Northeastern Kansas.  After a recent MSF course, received my motorcycle endorsement.  The MSF course was offered through Worth H-D in Kansas City, Missouri and was top notch.

I'm the proud owner of a 2015 Boulevard S40.  It is my first bike and I really love it.  The bike was a holdover, so I got a fair deal on it.  Prior to purchase, researched the Savage/ S40 (via this site and others reviewing these bikes) and knew it was the bike for me.  Glad to know there is a community I can look to for maintenance issues and concerns in the future. Not sure what changes to make, if any, aside from saddlebags and perhaps a windscreen.

Always thought a convertible would be in order when I hit my mid-life crisis.  The S40 fits the crisis bill nicely.

Happy motoring.

Bike has only done 2900kms and I am the third owner  I have no history of the bike but it looks like its been in storage for a long time Dark blue in colour with aftermarket handlebars but otherwise stock. I am an old guy in my seventies havent owned a bike for 40 years but have looked at these S40s
for a long time and finally took the plunge.  This is a great site and have been reading it for some time. I hope to get up to speed and get some good riding in as summer comes along in a few months time

I need to re-introduce myself again! I was a member here from around 2001 to 2005 but the forum had changed and the posts are no longer.
I had a 1987 Savage I restored and rode a lot but sold it in 2005.

Had a bunch of different bikes since then but thought I got the itch about 4 years ago and signed on here at that time.

Ended up with a TW200 trail bike and rode that a few years. That got sold and then I started thinking 650 thumpers again.

I think tomorrow I will pick up a 2009. It got laid down on the left side so there will be some parts I'll need to replace and I'm sure some advice will be needed too! It runs well and rides well so for me that's a big plus.
9900 miles so I will need to see what the state of the timing chain tensioner pretty soon.

Anyway here's what my old Savage looked like. Hoping the next one turns out as good!

Quick intro; Norwegian, born in '64, riding since '80, does not own a Savage/LS650 at the moment. Fond of singles, though, and find the LS650 the prettiest engine bar none. I see the bike as a platform to build something along the lines of the ST400 Tempter.
