yes it is a 4 speed bro.i have had a better look at it now,i removed the ignition coil & i can now see that it is toasted,the plastic around the 2 terminals is blown & cracked.i made up a temp short harness to test the ignition components so that i could discount the wiring/multiplugs/safety devices etc.the coil has obviously overheated & is shot.i connected up a coil that i had in my workshop,tested it by grounding the one terminal & the plug sparks.still no spark when i crank it.tested my igniter by disconnecting the green pickup wire & then briefly reconnecting it & still no spark.i guess that it is reasonable to assume that the coil getting so hot wouldnt do the igniter any favours.got to say though,i carefully opened up my igniter & there are no obvious signs of overheating.

thanks mark,i know that a couple of the pins looked a little iffy so it might be a good idea to change it & keep the original as a spare if it turns out to be working,i wouldnt want my mate to break down somewhere,he is only just over 5ft tall & 70yrs old so its got to be reliable.let me know how much you would like for it,im assuming paypal would be ok?

i guess that makes me the whippersnapper at a mere 56yrs old then? lol  i read the pm & it sounds good to me but i cant send pm's as my score is less than 10.the number on my igniter is 32900-24800 if its relevent.i will look the bike over this evening to see if i need any other bits & bobs that maybe you can help me out with,probably an ignition coil to start with.maybe we can sort everything tomorrow when i know what i need all together,is that good with you mark?

sorry for getting bk to you so late in the day mark,did you have a coil? if so,how much all in? ( inc p&p,would prefer 1st class if its an option ),many thanks.
