Hello my name is blod. I have recently bought a 2004 purple Savage in fantastic condition, it is totally stock.      I want to get a decent sounding muffler for it, the stock one is way too quiet for my liking.

Hello, my name is Alan, and I am new owner of a 2002 Savage.

A few years ago, my son bought a '96 Savage. Ever since he was 16 he has tried to get me to buy a motorcycle to road trip with him. Things happened and time went by and no motorcycle. I thought he had outgrown the idea and I had missed an opportunity for us to do this together. Recently, he said he would still love to go. A few weeks later, along came this 2002 Savage with no-compression (Hint: I will have questions about this.) for VERY cheap! (About 1/4 what he paid for his!)

So, at 65 years old, and not having owned a motorcycle since the 80's (I had a bicycle shop so swore off motors on my two wheelers for quite a while!) I now find myself with a project and the prospect of adventures!

I am really excited about this bike; way more so than expected!

I have read much of the site to get myself up to speed. What a great resource! So I guess it's time for me to stop lurking and say, "hello!"

New member and S40 owner. I’ve owned a bunch of motorcycles over my lifetime (67 years) and presently have 9. I picked up a 2011 S40 to use on a sidecar Rig. Looking forward to the knowledgeable folks here helping me learn about the Suzuki.

Did you ever mount a sidecar to your S40 ?     I'm thinking about getting a sidecar to use with my Savage.

Hi there! Thanks for having me. I'm Tom, from Long Island N.Y. I was happy to find this site. Why I'm here - I had a Suzuki GS 550 some years ago. I loved it but had to sell it. Lately, I've decided that I'd like to get another bike. As fate would have it a 2002 Savage fell into my lap. It belonged to a family member and the poor beast has been sitting for about 7 years. Good news is that it's been stored in a dry place all that time......So now I'm starting on the process of bringing it back to life. I'd like to be riding it come this spring. I'm not a motorcycle expert but I know my way around working on cars and such. I did a few things on the old GS 550.....So any advice or suggestions would be great. I figure I have to remove the gas tank and go after any fuel that remains or has turned into a varnish. The tank does have some fuel in it.....Again, thanks for having me and if I can figure out how to post a photo then you should see one here.

Hi Tom.  It's makes a change not to be the newest member any more  Smiley

Do you know if the bike running ok before it was stored ?  How many miles has it done ?

You might want to think about replacing the tires, old rubber is not worth the risk.

PS, Welcome !

Thanks for the welcome, and the reply.

It was running. Even after it was parked it was run occasionally. It has about 8,000 miles on it. And I agree about the tires.

I just picked up a service manual so I can read up on certain mechanical stuff I'll do myself. I also have to get a battery for sure.

Thanks again.

Woohoo!  I got approved!  Cheesy
Happy to be here.  Cool
Wow, this board has been around for some time!
I go by "Andy", I was a teen in the 1980s, and I live on the Western Slope, Colorado, USA.  Wink
A little over 3 weeks ago I STOLE a beautiful 2017 Boulevard S40 with only 1200 miles for a very reasonable $2600.  It was on consignment at a local repair shop, sitting out front one day, calling to me as I drove by.  If there is a reason it was so affordable, it hasn't come up yet.  Seems to run perfectly, no leaks, very clean.  No signs it was ever laid down, and only 7 years old.
It is the 3rd motorcycle that's been in my life, but is my first real cruiser.  The others were dirt and street, and both many, many years ago.  It's been a long time and I'm stoked.  I love it!  Gonna make it my primary form of transport whenever possible.  Smiley
I shall name it "Thumper" (I know, not terribly original, but I like it).
I already cleaned the bluing off the exhaust, which thankfully came off pretty well.

It was obviously an excellent buy, and  1200 miles is bugger all .        I have noticed the Boulevards are often priced lower than the Savages, especially the white ones. It's all about image. Enjoy ! Grin

Thanks! I really like how it looks as-is, but I am considering painting all the white parts a matte forest-green, or maybe a high-gloss dark crimson.
