Hi everyone, my name is Joe.  I'm a 30 yo new(er) rider from the south shore of Mass.  When I got married 5 years ago, my wife told me that I wasn't allowed to get a bike, however last year one of her friends father was selling an '86 Savage with (gosh!) 2000 miles on it for $500, and I convinced her to let me get it.  So, I got my permit and the bike in the same day, and actually rode it home!  Last year I was on it all the way through the beginning of November, my last ride was actually bringing it to my dad's to put it in the garage for the winter...it was about 35 degrees out and perfect for a 20 mile ride!
Haven't gotten it out yet this year as I've been trying to work out a carb/idle issue, thanks to Serowbot I think I may have gotten it licked.  If anyone's south of Boston and wants to get a ride in sometime, hit me up!
-Joe

Greetings!

I'm still fairly new to the motorcycle world. I started off with a 2008 Yamaha Vino 125 scooter, and decided that I should learn how to ride a full motorcycle if I'm going to be licensed to do so. (Ontario considers my Yammy a motorcycle because of engine displacement and top speed.) So I bought a 1984 Honda Magna V45 off a work buddy, and rode it all last season. Then, on my first commute this season, it threw a rod and blew a hole clean through the block. Great. I wasn't even pushing it, as I'm a very conservative rider.  :'( While I'd love to take on the project of putting a new engine in it, I'm a beginner mechanic and I've got a four-month-old daughter and other life commitments to deal with. Sayonara, Magna-san.

But I still want a motorcycle to test on for my final license (as the rationalization) and to keep and love forever (as my heart tells me). A buddy has an '88 (or so) Savage, and the simplicity really appeals to me -- only one cylinder, only one carb, air cooled, belt drive... it's the perfect stable mate for my Vino, and within my abilities as a mechanic. Perfect! I can't wait to really join this crowd and rumble down the street on my LS650... wherever she may be...

I've been lurking here since I decided that the Savage is my next bike, and I'm very impressed by the wealth of information and enthusiasm on this site. Well done, folks! I hope to be able to contribute!

Love those bobbers!  Greetings to all of you new guys and gals.  Good luck with your builds and hope to hear from you again and again.

A friend and I (not a Savage rider) are planning to head to Gettysburg, PA on July 3rd or 4th.  If you plan to be there, give me a shout.

Hiya doin' all....

Newb here.   VAFarmer is my username for several forums that I gravitate towards.

I live in SWVA, and commute about 80 miles to-n-from work a day.   Me and the wife work at the same place, so gas mileage is not so bad when riding together, but when she works a different shift, it kills us.   Was in the market for a decent looking, smaller frame bike that gets decent mileage, and had decent power.    No scooters for me, as part of my commute is dodging traffic up a twisty mountain road.   I needed something that can get out of the way Wink.   The other half of my commute puts me on the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is wonderful cruising, but now you dodge deer, turkey, and the occasional bear.

Anyway, bought an 03 Savage in VG shape with 4k on it for 2k$.  Very nice bike, and far more enjoyable than I expected.
Power is good for me (190lbs).   Bike was well cared for, so looks BNIB.  I have been lurking for 3-4 days, and it seems like this bike will be very easy to maintain, and upgrade performance, if I desire.
I try to be an active servant at my church,  and am a father of 3.
I also enjoy anything that involves shooting.   I help my father work 2 farms  (< 300 acres total) so we stay busy.

I look forward to meeting the membership here, and contributing where I may.

Thanks and God bless you, each one.

VAFarmer
