K&N filter oil vs grease vs regular motor oil
08/10/07 at 03:42:10

Instructions that come with the K&N filter that slips in the stock air box call for sealing with K&N grease or K&N filter oil. Dealer says just use motor oil to seal (not on filter which is preoiled with K&N oil). Is this OK? or should I get the special K&N stuff?

Thanks!

I guessin' you mean oil filter vs. air filter.

Anything applied to the oil filter unless it's oil proof, is going to wash away.  oil, grease is oil and wax.

If you did mean air, who cares? do as yogert (spaceballs) says, and go the oldman way, canola or peanut spray.

I'd use a grease that will not dissolve the foam seal on the outer edge of the filter. Usually I use a white teflon grease designed for trailer balls and equalizer hitch pviot points. It is just an additional barrier to any dirt going around the filter element. Max

I didnt see anything in the destructions on that when I installed mine. I sure don't see how any air is gonna sneak past the foam edge seal when the filter element is so low restriction. I wish I still had those installation instructions.
