HD Dyna sizing question (Read 8 times)

Muffler for a 1995 and later Dyna FXD models?? with 1450. The Harley part number is 64941-01. They are 22" long and have a 1 3/4" id inlet Thanks

I have been looking on eBay at these mufflers. There are two types pictured. One has a slide type mounting bracket the other has two seperate mounting brackets. Question is will both types work? I would think that the one with the slide type bracket would be a better choice. Has anyone mounted the type with the two seperate brackets and what if any mods had to be done to the mounting bracket on the bike to make that type work? Just drill a hole or two? Thoughts or suggestions please. I am trying to get some parts togather for the winter.

The Dyna muffler I used had one bracket with a slot. The center of the slot has a larger cut out.

I went to the hardware store and found carriage bolts with heads that fit through the enlarge part of the slot. The square shoulder of the bolt fit exactly into the slot. This holds the bolt when you tighten the nut. I was able to get a bolt into both of the stock bracket holes without modification. It makes for a secure mounting.

Two tips. Be sure to get the Dyna muffler without the crossover fitting. Also, you might check out the local HD dealer. They often have take-offs mufflers. I got my Dyna muffler from the local shop for $20 (local shop - short drive, no shipping cost, no waiting Grin
