Float adj

I'm sure you guys have probably already covered this subject several times ,but after reading several carb subjects I decided that it might be quicker to just ask again. Does anyone know the float adj measurements on a 97 model ?

Thanks , most helpful.. This is my son's first bike and he is anxious to get it up and running. Cody is 19 and has moved out on his own and  is fast learning the pitfalls of adulthood, mostly gas prices. Smiley at least that is the excuse that he and his mother are both using to buy motorcycles Grin me I just like riding!! 8)

Easiest float level check requires a opiece of tubing & a screwdriver. Stick the tube on the bowl drain & open the bowl drain & move the end of the hose down from top of bowl to bottom. When gas starts to come out, thats how high the floats are.

One aspect you might come across while adjusting the floats is where the measurement is from-- if your carb is like the one on my '04, there are 2 possible references to measure from-- the gasket mating surface and a lower casting ridge that locates the float bowl.  The clymer has a diagram and the above measurement is from the gasket mating surface.  Interestingly enough I had been told the measurement should be 25mm by another source (instead of the 26.95 to 28.95 mm cited in the clymer manual); when you measure from the casting ridge, the difference is very close to the difference between 27.95mm and 25mm. so either is probably correct but only for the respective reference-- gasket mating surface for 27.95mm and cast ridge for 25mm.  Just thought you may get confused like I was for a while.

Alternatively, the tubing could be clear.  You could then see if the fuel level was equal in height to the float bowl gasket surface.

Also, the FSM for my bike (see signature) says the float height is measured in reference to the gasket surface, not the ridge mentioned above.

FWIW.....

Or a few mm below usually.
