Just a couple of random thoughts. (OK not really random, but the saying sounds good.)

I never put saddle bags on my Savage. I had a trunk. I used it everyday. If for no other reason than I always carry rain gear. IMHO a trunk is more useful that saddle bags. I have bags and a trunk on my Concours, and again, I think the trunk is more useful that my bags. (It also holds more than the two bags put together, and the bags are big enough to fit a FF XL helmet)

Also, a tank bag will hold a lot, and is easy to remove for carrying with you.
