Instead they are machining a shallow groove. I'm thinking of doing that to my rotor. Take a ball end mill and put a groove in the rotor in a like angle of the drilled rotors.

Also allows venting of the gases that form between the surfaces of the pad and rotor. These are from the support matrix in the pads and when the pads are heated during braking, it vaporizes. Venting via slots or holes in a drilled rotor allows more consistent contact between the pad and rotor with less compressive force and allows more cooling which prevents fade.

Translation: Better braking forces.

I've seen it at Dennis Kirk. I've also seen it at www.cyclebrakes.com in their EBC Catalog on page 24. I think I bought mine at Motorcycle Pro Shop but I don't recall for sure.
