Hacked off the rear fender.
07/23/07 at 19:18:13

OK its gone right ~ 3 inches behind the rectifier. I also cut its skirts ... its now a serious bobber and man did that weigh a ton and a 1/2.
Anyway, can someone tell me what to do with the Regulator/rectifier and if there is a tail light that will fit in that 3-4 inch space.
Cool.
Srinath.

You mean you didn't have a plan before you hacked it off?

Don't you think that's silly?

Plan schman, I say hack away and fix whatever is wrong when all the dust settles.  Get your look right and then worry about the details, after all if you're not happy with the way your scoot looks you won't ride it as much.

Wow, that's quite a leap of faith.

I could never do that. I always have a plan on anything that isnt disposable.Even then I am not guaranteed succes. If he cant get a light on it or get the regulator mounted so it works okay, the riding will definitely be minimal.

Stuff the regulator in the airbox. Mine has been there for years.

Taillight? No problem, hit any "Crusty Chrome" (Custom Chrome) dealer and look through a Jammer's Handbook. Some only need 1/2 inch of space on the fender.

Here's the light I used (off ebay) when I chopped the rear fender on my Virago (sold it) It was called a mini chopper tailight and was around 10 bucks.

Have fun with your project and stick the rectifier inside the airbox, it will fit. BTW, I bought that light AFTER I chopped the fender, I hated that big ugly OEM light ...
I also removed the OEM blinkers and replaced them with bullets,  again off ebay around 15 bucks. Oh, and yes, those are Savage shocks on the Virago. Made it look beefier and lower

It seems like I always start off with a plan...and then scrap the plan as soon as I start working and start winging it.

If nothing else, you can manufacture a tab and mount a more flush mount sytle tail light on the very rear of the fender:

The HD night rider doesn't have a tail light per sey.  they set up the sig's with red lenses and they are also operate as stop lights.

Plan schman is right ...
Dont need no steenkin plan when you have a spare ...
I dont care much for the side fit lights, but crustom crome catalog sounds like a capital idea ... then I rip it off on ebay or the like.
Now stuff regulator air box you say ... OK you do know that that air box will soon be dead air (AKA ... tossing a K&N on it) so ... basically drop in there, and yea thanks for the tip that it fits ... that's my first step tommorow ... heck, I'll disconnect it, run the wires through the snorkel and plug it in inside the air box.
At this point de snorkelling is a waste of time. Its K&N as soon as the darn thing hits my door.
Cool.

One thing you might try is contacting the manufacturer of these and see if they can do a red/amber set and wire the reds as marker/stop and amber as turns.

Quote:
Can be used for turn signals, tail lights or front running lights.

Each LED has  two internal lamps. One is normal intensity for tail or marker lights, the other is a super bright turn signal lights.

Also available with all Red or Red & Amber LEDs & other styles

I am waiting for the tail light to show. Then I fit it and see what needs to be done.
Doesn't look too crazy.
Cool.

I have not moved mine yet, too much ridin' to do. Should not be too hard to move it where the air box was.
