I've asked the gas gauge question myself a couple of times, I hope you get better answers.

There is an odometer, there is no trip meter.  All you need to do is remember the start mileage and subtract from current.  If you have trouble remembering, a small lock with three number wheels will record the last three digits.

The fuel gauge runs into the problem of too small of a market to pay for the engineering -- so you have to engineer your own.    The market is small because there are relatively few Savages, and most of us do not see a need for a fuel gauge. We have reserve -- which is good for upto 40 miles.  You switch to reserve and you look for a gas station.  Unless you're in the middle of the Mojave in which case you should have planned ahead.

You'll not get a better answer until someone, such as either of you two, figures out a better answer.  You can start by looking as fuel gauges for motorboats.  A gauge would look nice on the left side of the tank to compliment the gas cap.

I did the same, got a 3 digit luggage lock from 99 cent store. Hooked it to the tie wraps on the bars just below the front brake reservoir. I listen for that stutter (or a slow down at idle) at about 115-120 miles. Fill er up and reset the lock. First lock lasted almost a year, then broke, so I bought another one. It's cost me 2 bucks so far.

When I first got my Savage I used a grease pencil to write the last 3 digits of the odometer on the speedo glass at every fillup. Eventually I got a computer made for dirt bikes and used that. It gives me a speedo and tripmeter up high on the handlebars where I can see it without dipping my head.

I vaguely remember seeing a gas gauge... basically it was a piece of clear fuel line that ran down the side of the tank... was that on savage bobber dave's bike? or was that in THE HORSE, Backstreet choppers?

How is the Veypor?  Is it difficult to install?  How accurate is it?  I think I am going to go the route but I would like some feedback first from current owners.

May I ask where you got it and how much you paid?  I am looking around and they seem to be about $300.  I like the idea of the tach, trip, and fuel gauge all being in one unit and higher up.  Looks like a quality piece too.
