Thanks...but now that it`s loose, how do we tighten it up again? Maybe I just push down on it and see if it`ll key in? I`m almost ready to slot the tip and put on a regular nut ala a valve adjuster. I want to do the swing door mod or maybe just jettison the chome covers......

Good point!  Step 1 of almost all Savage maintenance is to lay a rag over the starter motor to keep stuff from falling into the black hole.
