CA emissions canister remove?
06/20/07 at 22:04:19

Anyone know the science of removing the CA canister?  What do people have elsewhere?  I vented the line on my zx6r and got 30mpg from 50mpg.  I get 35 mpg on the savage now and just wondering why.

If I plug the line to the canister will anything bad happen?

Besides jet settings, any other reasons for low mpg? bike seems to move easy in neutral...tires inflated...doesnt seem to leak fuel.  stock petthingy.  and no gas smell in oil cap/cover.....hmmmm

hose from gas tank takes evaporated fuel and routes to the canister. Canister holds fumes and a tube connects from canister to carb.  When bike is on, it sucks the fumes to carb and uses the evaporated fuel.

oh.  I bet you can seal up the carb & tank holes with vacuum caps of the appropriate size, use clamps as well.  Then get a vented gas cap like everyone else in the US.  that SHOULD do it.  you may have to rejet for some reason.  I don't know if the CA carbs are any different.

what about just routing the tank hose tot he carb hose?  I bet this would make the bike run like poo, though.

We are.  I would keep any removed smog equipment in case the State later requires smog checks for motorcycles.

Very good point, Paladin.

Would the mods I suggested work?

What is different about the CA carbs?

We're jetted leaner -- same as the Europeans.

I dont think CA carbs are jetted leaner than others.  My 2003 is a CA model (with canister) and it had the same size jets as the other models.  Main jet was 145.  I know I'm the first one to take the carb apart.  I believe the carb specs given in the Tech Section pulled from the Suzuki manual are incorrect on this subject.  I wonder what size jets other CA Suzuki owners found when opening the carburator for the first time.

Good advice was given on keeping all original emissions parts.  It wouldn't surprise me to see CA require motorcycle emissions testing some day, at least upon resale.  When I lived in Tucson AZ 6 years ago, motorcycle emissions testing was required there. Roll Eyes
