A $25 +/- HD muffler from ebay can be a very cost effective item for the Savage.  Be sure, if getting one, that it is the type that DOES NOT have the crossover tube hole in it.  You want the type without the hole.  The air flow through them is pretty good and the sound is much better than the stock Savage muffler, but not too loud and objectionable.
I have on occasion found a pair of mufflers, either brand new or close to it, for $25 + $20 shp.  Use one, sell the other, and zero out your initial cost.
Be at peace Kenny, all is well in Savage Land.

Hi guys. Vtail here.Guess I'm in. Picking up my new scoot tonight. Taking it straight from the dealer to my garage to install some factory accessories and do the carb mod. I want to install a better but not to loud an exhaust.  Which Harley years do not have the crossover tube? 883 or 1200 sporster? Mac too loud? Heard the slashcuts, too loud for me. Input? Thanks Smiley

I've got a Sportster muff on mine. It's a bit louder than I would wish, but it sounds like a real bike now. Well, more like half a Harley if you slow the idle way down. I went into the Harley dealer, asked about Sportster take offs and walked out with two that looked brand new wrapped in plastic in the box for $20.00. I figure I'll not be needing any more for a few years. Then just go to the nearest Midas shop and tell them how you want it installed.

Here's some pix:

Cool, but now we're all curious. Is that a long long range tank or a beerkeg?

Looks like a super paint job on a TourTank.

On the back is a four gallon tour tank. I got that before I got bitten by the big tank on the front bug. It was nice on the trip down to Miami and back from southern Minnesota last summer. Gave me almost a 300 mile range. Now I'm sittin' at about 450 miles if I need to before re-fueling. I suppose Icould clean it out and put a tap on it for tailgate parties.
