Engine shuts off when I start revving.
06/11/07 at 09:50:53

I left this morning for work, got all the way to the end of the block with no problems when all of sudden my engine dies.

The engine only dies when I start letting go of the clutch and I start twisting the throttle. When I start the engine I can twist the throttle once or twice but right after that it just dies when I turn it.

I've tried to see if it was the side stand sensor but I ruled that out by turning the engine on in neutral with the stand down and up and in first gear with the stand is up and it turns on every time.

Any ideas as to what this could be?

Oops maybe I should have put a ,little more info.

I have the 2005 model.

The battery is brand new, only a month old.

Last oil change was 4000km ago.

My 05 S40 pulled about the same stunt on me.  Had under 5,000 miles on it, but close to it. It would last about 5 or 10 minutes then just cut out & it might take 10 minutes before the starter would even engage. Yours starts right back up or what?

Mine no longer works, as soon as I pull the throttle and let go of the clutch it shuts off.

So, when the clutch is released, the thing dies. I would short around the clutch switch. You can just pop the connector & jam a piece of paper clip in there to see if thats gonna get it. If so, do whatevr you like, make it permanent.

Waita mnute here. What happens when you are in neutral? IF you can play with the clutch & crank the gas on & off in neutral then its gotta be a safety switch. I bypassed the kickstand switch even tho I couldnt prove it was bad. It still has shafetd me a few times since, but it changed the hassle factor by a ton. My clutch isnt bypassed.

That's an excellent question.  If you can rev it normally without it dying while in neutral, you can rule out fuel and go electrical.

Hmm I'm not entierly sure I'll have to check that again when I get home. I did fill my tank on Saturday and I tried revving in while on reserve.

If therre is a question about the health of the oetcock, PRI is the way to check that, The Res & Run work the same using vacuum, just different height inlet tube in the tank.

oetthingy = petc0ck
res & run = positions of the petc0ck, there's also 'pri'me
using vacuum = vacuum line from carb to petc0ck, used to turn gas on.

Oh okay... I don't think there's anything wrong with my petcock. There's no reason for it to suddenly stop working... I used it on saturday and it was fine.
