Fuel selector question
06/09/07 at 15:29:34

I just bought a 2003 Savage for my wife and I didn't get an owner's manual.  Can someone tell me what the "PRI" setting is for?  I was under the impression that this is a gravity-fed fuel system and, as such, would require the operator to shut off the fuel when finished with a ride.  Of course, the float should shut off the fuel flow but I've heard horror stories about people hydro-locking their engines because the float stuck.

Can anyone explain these settings to me?  Of course, the "ON" and "RES" settings are self-evident.

Thanks!

The "on" & "res" selections are vacuum controled.  When your engine is running, gas will flow.

The "pri" selection is on all the time.

Hence there is no off setting.

Pri = Prime it comes in handy when you do carb work so you can refill the bowl. However, I would not recomend keeping it there, you can very effectively flood the carb. Prime also is very effective in draining the fuel tank when needed.

Thanks for the info - so I guess we just leave it in the "ON" position when it is parked.  That's easy enough.  Grin

Smiley  The Pri selection should also be handy if you ever run the tank completely dry when you start it again.  It should act similiar to priming the carb like on the old bikes.
