There is no requirement (that I can find) in the California Vehicle Code for side reflectors.  So I pulled them and mounted *TWO* "Highway Blaster" electric horns, Hi/Lo tones, one each on each side.  Have a horn relay so as to not burn out the horn button and to ensure full voltage to the horns.  I seldom use my horns, but when I do I sound like a Cadillac bearing down on them.

Definately a horn relay is in order when upgrading to a 'cager' style....they suck ALOT of juice, and you can fry more than just a couple of wires or a switch without using a relay. The reason I know ???

My buddy had a Honda Shadow 1100, and tried the horn upgrade, when mentioned the need for a relay, he sluffed it of, sayin "a horn is a frikken horn, dont need no stinkin relay". He was so proud of the new horn, he used it quite alot, until some wires got a little too hot in the circuit and decided to melt through and weld themselves to some more wiring...shorted out EVERYTHING, even the fuse box melted.

He sold the bike for parts, nobody was willing to rewire it, and the whole wiring harness and electrical stuff from  Honda was over 2000 BUCKS to replace.

Horn relay's are pretty cheap insurance.
