Those mod's will lean out the carb and reduce the vacuum pressure to the petc0ck. I got the same problem, but it's all the time. So I run in res all the time where it runs great. I took it apart once, gonna do it again once I get around 2it.

It has the stock air filter and the air intake looks stock. Someone before me drilled out the carb plug ( and screwed up the brass idle adjustment screw so bad I cant move it). I've not checked the jets, but the carb screws show someone has been in it. I just installed a HD dyna pipe. I have no pop or backfire problems now or before the HD pipe change (sometimes a small puff when I cut it off). It runs even better now, the header is light gold not blue, and the HD muffler has a little black soot just like the stock pipe did. So I think the jets have been addressed before I got it?

BTW, I get the same small puff at shut off with my stock Suzuki Vinson 500cc single ATV ??? Must just "run in the family" Grin

I had a similar problem last year. The only difference was that it would happen any time I rolled off the throttle after an extended period of constant speed (not necessarily a hill). The problem was a small hole in the vacuum hose going between the throttle and the carb.

Now, the problem's back this year, and I don't know what's wrong. I took the vacuum hose off to inspect it for holes, and I found some fuel in there. That doesn't seem normal, but I don't know if it's the source of my problem.

I do have a K&N air filter, though, so maybe I'll take the advice of a previous post on this thread and replace it with a stock filter.

You need to take it apart and inspect for holes in the diapham.

You can just go for the "Petthingy Mod" in the tech section and never worry about vaccuum lines or diaphrams again... I kept having "phantom" fuel problems until I converted my petcock to simple, manual ON-OFF function and removed the fuel screen to replace with an inline fuel filter. Keeps the inside of my tank squeeky clean Grin

petc0ck mod, white spacer removed, 150 main jet, 12.5" shocks, 16" turnout muff, oil cooler mod, chain conversion, Tkat brace, external fuel filter, fuel screen removed...
