Help! Howitzer-like pop when shutting off engine
05/30/07 at 15:56:55
Hello everybody!
I'm restoring an '88 Savage and learning motorcycle maintenance along the way. The bike I'm working on is running ok, no backfire, clean exhaust, however when I shut the engine down it makes a huuuuuuuge pop. Could somebody tell me what does it mean (from mechanics standpoint) and how to get rid of it?
At this time it's really not safe to shut the engine down if cops are nearby.
Thank you for your help!

You have a lean fuel condition in the pilot circuit. Move up a jet size or two. The rule of thumb is that if you more than 2 or so turns out on the fuel screw, you need to go to the next size up.The pilot jet will be on the bottom of the carb in a recess.
