Whistling Muffler (Read 17 times)

joewestfall Ex Member	Whistling Muffler 05/19/07 at 14:38:02 I have a 2006 S40. Everything stock. The muffler has developed a whistle. I sound like George Jetson puttering around. Any help would be appreciated.

Laugh at the flat piece O junk. Get somethjing that will let that engine breathe & put on the open end of the header, Rejet, Ride like crazy! Have fun!

I think you could get one cheaper at a HD dealer. I've seen them for about 20 bucks if they have any used ones hanging around.

They aren't too loud but sound alot better than the stock pipe. Mine used to sound like a sewing machine until I put the sporty muff on.
Pretty easy to install. I did it myself so it MUST be easy.

Then, you rejet the carb, which even piano teachers can accomplish with ease. Just think! You can ride your modified( By You) thumper to school & gain all kinds of street cred with the kids!

I bought an '86 Savage the other day, and the muffler is obviously shot. Since I have two spare Sportster mufflers at home (I picked up a spare set for my '81 CX500 Deluxe on E-bay), I figured I could donate one to the miss's bike.

I'm running a sporty muffler and a drop in K+N air filter with a 152.5 main. If you want more growl from the exhaust drill a 3/8 inch hole in the baffle. Even with the drilled baffle the 152.5 main jet should work fine.
