although you will receive the necessary help from this site I'm sure, I hope you do not take opffense when I recommend you shell out a few $$ & buy a Clymers or Suzuki service manual. there are pros & cons on both - the Clymers is what I have & I think a little simpler to follow - cheapest from Amazon, taking the free freight option @ checkout to save $3.50 Smiley

Check out the technical reference forum, it really works.  I gave the link to the discussion below.

The cable runs from the solenoid on the right side of the bike under the gas tank to the lever that holds the exhaust valve open on the left side of the head.  You must adjust the cable slack at TDC with both valves closed (compression stroke). A rubber cap covers the solenoid rod. By removing the cap you can see the rod as you push the lever up on the other side. As you move the lever up and take out any slack in the cable the rod should stick out (from being flush) by 3-5mm when both intake and exhaust valves are closed. Adjust via the cable nuts on the left side near the lever.

My cable had jumped out of the holders and was so far out of adjustment (valve held open) it would not start. That is why I got my 87 for $500. Simple adjustment and it started , but then there is the story about the leaking o-ring in the float needle seat and gunk in the carb. Hope this helps.

I made the silly mistake of measuring it at the carb end after reading the clymers.
specific questions are cool in this awesome groop.
often I've gotten them within 4-8 hours, sometimes less.
This site rocks !
